Huntleigh/ArjoHealthcare Limited – September 2002: June 2010
Documentation Engineer
I started Huntleigh in a full-time role as a Documentation Assistant in 2002, however day-release technical training was soon offered. After completing an ONC in Electrical Engineering in 2004 I was promoted to Documentation Technician.
In September 2004 I started a HNC in Mechanical engineering, as I believed this combined with my Electrical ONC would give me a good overall understanding of engineering. After completing the Engineering training, I felt improving (and certifying) my authoring ability was required.
I completed the ESTON ED2LD training July of 2009. This training resulted in a further promotion to ‘Documentation Engineer’ in January 2010.
As part of my role within the department I created and maintained technical documents which included: Service Manuals, Service Bulletins, User Manuals, and User Leaflets. Unlike most authoring roles, my role included the authoring and the illustrating/graphical content for the documents. These documents covered both the electrical and mechanical workings of the products.
I expanded my role at ArjoHuntleigh to include: design of silk-screens, creating logos for new products, creating User/Service information CD’s, and design for their packaging. Label design was a large portion of my role, ranging from working in CorelDraw, to working in the barcode specific labelling software “Prisym”. I was the only employee within ArjoHuntleigh who understood the label software, and how to design /implement it. This resulted in me taking on further responsibility by becoming responsible for every in house printed packaging label, from design through to support to the shop floor, which included manufacturing plants in China, Poland and the UK.
I also developed and maintained a timesheet that is used by all of R&D at ArjoHuntleigh. This timesheet splits individual project hours, time off for sickness and holiday, and training and returns percentages of time spent, and a year-to-date percentage. This spreadsheet included various formulae for summarising the information entered, which was then further compiled by myself, before being passed to the Technical Director for further detail.
